Since 2007, Dunes & Desert has been sharing the Agafay desert, about 45 minutes from Marrakech, with one simple belief: a great trip should also do good for the people who welcome you and the landscapes you explore. Small groups, a local team, animal welfare and respect for nature: the way we work turns every excursion into a sustainable and fair tourism experience in Morocco.

At Dunes & Desert, there are no endless convoys or queues. We favour small groups and quiet tracks, so you can enjoy the silence of the desert and the views of the Atlas Mountains.
Our oasis, set on 8 hectares of nature off the tourist trail, lies deliberately away from the road: here, the Agafay desert is experienced in peace, far from mass tourism.
Our guides, drivers, camel handlers and cooks are the heart of Dunes & Desert. All our employees are officially declared, take their holidays and get their overtime back.
Many of them come from the surrounding villages: today, 11 people, and therefore 11 families from nearby villages, make a living from Dunes & Desert. A stable, happy team also means a warmer welcome for you.
Our camels are part of the team. They get regular visits from the vet, have shelter, water at will and good-quality food.
Their hours stay reasonable: each camel does a maximum of two rides a day. A camel ride in the Agafay desert, yes, but always with respect for the animal.
The Agafay desert is fragile, and we are committed to limiting our environmental impact. Our buggies and quads only use marked tracks: no wild off-roading that damages the soil and vegetation.
At the oasis, we limit and manage our waste, and we save water and energy every day. Our 4 earthen buildings were built with local, sustainable materials that blend naturally into the landscape.
We work with local families and favour short supply chains. Our Moroccan cuisine is prepared on site, local crafts showcase the region’s know-how, and village visits directly benefit the families who open their doors to you.
These encounters with locals are often the best memories of a trip to Morocco.
