Just 45 minutes from Marrakech, the Agafay desert changes with the hours. In the morning the air is crisp and the Atlas stands out on the horizon. In the late afternoon the stone hills turn copper and the sky lights up. So, morning or Agafay sunset? It depends on your trip. Here is how to choose, and what we offer at each time of day from our oasis.
Morning: fresh air and the whole day ahead
In November the sun rises around 6:50 am in Marrakech (Morocco time, GMT) and nights drop to about 10 °C. Mornings start cool, then days climb to around 22 °C on average. On clear days the morning air lets you see the peaks of the High Atlas from the Agafay ridges.
Another plus: you are back in Marrakech by mid-afternoon. The pace suits families with young children, and your evening stays free for the medina or Jemaa el-Fna square.
Our morning and midday outings
- Quad & camel morning with lunch: about 1h30 of quad biking, 30 minutes on a camel, then tagine or couscous under a tent; back at your hotel around 3 pm.
- Camel ride in the Agafay desert & oasis: a relaxed half day, with several departures a day.
- Traditional lunch with a 1-hour quad ride: departure around 11 am, back around 2:30 pm.
- Traditional lunch with a 1-hour buggy ride or with a 30-minute camel ride: a short outing, meal included.
Sunset: golden light and dinner under the stars
Since Morocco returned to GMT, the sun sets early: around 5:40 pm in early November and around 5:30 pm in December. Low light shapes every ridge, silhouettes stand out against the sky, then the lanterns come on in the oasis. It gets cool quickly after sunset, so bring a windbreaker or a warm jacket.

So, morning or sunset?
- Pick the morning if you travel with young children, like to ride in the cool air, or want to keep your evening for Marrakech.
- Pick the sunset for a couple’s or friends’ outing, for photos, and to end the day at the table in our oasis.
For families, here are our rules: on site, every minor (under 18) stays with a parent. On quads and buggies, 16- and 17-year-olds can drive if a parent is with them, and children 15 and under ride as passengers. On camel rides, children under 10 ride with an adult and are never alone on a camel. Bring closed shoes and a valid ID too.
